Run | Number 80 | 5k Grand Prix Series | Werrington

Last night we were struck with the difficult decision between running the last 5k in the series, or competing in the last triathlon of the season. Sarah's bike had been in for repair and unfortunately wasn't ready yesterday so 5k it was. I've heard good things about this race and it's described as a flat and fast course, I was looking forward to hopefully smashing my PB (unfortunately this did not happen).

The course was lovely and as promised flat but unfortunately not fast for me. There was too many turns and I felt like I was loosing speed having to keep navigating the corners. I asked Paula to pace me again but she was going for 29 minutes (no way in hell I could do this) I decided to stick with her as long as I could and drop back when I needed too. 5 minutes in she started walking, saying the heat was too much and she felt lightheaded, I managed to get her to carry on but slowly, as time doesn't really matter. We carried on with me just in front of her for most of the way. At around the 4k mark I burnt out and then relied on Paula to get me round. We crossed the finish line together holding hands pleased that neither of us had given up.

I'm pretty sure my official time was 32 minutes 53 seconds. 8 seconds off my PB, but I will be back. Peterborough is finally starting parkrun this weekend so I can now run all the 5k's (or maybe not).
